So I'm half way through the album, for those interested. Hopefully I'll have this done by spring/early summer. That's the album news.

Some ARTIST STUFF:

I was going to release ALL the songs on Newgrounds at my regular quality, and sell a c.d. of it all done through a studio. However, the release here on Newgrounds may not come to fruition. And here is why:

There have been a lot of FANTASTIC artists that have been here on Newgrounds but discouraged by the vote/rating system. Regardless of the score, it does directly effect their exposure..which is what a lot of people are after. Exposure and feedback. Not a bunch of hard work on an excellent song to have 15 votes, a score of 2.5 and not a single review.

It's basically a slap in the face, to the artists that work hard to provide newgrounds with the best ORIGINAL, free music ANYWHERE on the internet. SO these artists are slapping newgrounds back in the face, by NO LONGER providing their music for free, and leaving the site. I want to show my support for them, as their loss here is greater than people think.

So I may no longer submit anything that I've really worked hard on, to newgrounds either. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of support and fans because of newgrounds. So only the people who have added me to their favorites(which hasn't changed in a few weeks) may still get a "newground quality" cut of the C.D. for free, but if I decide that, it will be handled privately. :D

I definitely appreciate all that newgrounds has to offer, and I am NOT looking for fame and fortune through music. However, there are a lot of artists that take their music significantly more serious than just hobby. I've convinced several artists through different genres to put their music on newgrounds, because it has been so good for me. Sadly, a lot of the user base, voting rating system allow for a fair amount of anonymous disrespect. I've tried my own ways to rectify the situation in fact several ways. As an audio moderator, and as a general user. The efforts that I've put forward in these capacities have completely been out done by the mass amounts of immature, unaware, self righteous fuckheads. I feel that I've let a lot of those artists down, by telling them how good NG's can be.

The audio portal isn't a joke. It shouldn't be treated like one.
I don't have the answers. I can only agree that I've witnessed artists across multiple genres of amazing capacity, leave recently because of the above reasons.

I don't have the solution for retention. I do have suggestions, but that doesn't do much good for the artists that are gone.

My suggestions:

I think the users should only be granted one vote per account/IP like in the old days. But they are only granted that vote if they leave a review. Also, any songs from the portal used in flashes MUST be linked by the flash author. I know that is a bit harder to police, however...it would show the artists that at least the owners care that they are bringing their own fan base to Newgrounds as well.

Like I said, I personally appreciate what Newgrounds means to me, what they've done for me, and allow me to contribute back in the capacity of a moderator. Those are things I do take seriously. And will continue to do.

But my submissions will stop, in support of the artists who have left. I doubt this will change the USERS attitudes towards the portal, but maybe spark some change elsewhere.

Right now I have a rough copy, mix, and voxed up song for #4 on the album. The notes are a bit off from time to time, as I"m just messing with melodies still. Where I'm stuck is, on the chorus melody, and would love some feed back.

So far I have two different chorus melodies. One at 0:57 and the other at 2:00.

Looks like I'm back now, even though holidays don't officially end for another 5 days.
